January Wine-of-the-Month:
Spring Mountain Vineyard, "Elivette", Spring Mountain District AVA, Napa Valley, CA., 2012
(82% Cab Sauv/ 8% Cab Franc / 8% Petit Verdot/ 2% Merlot)
(regular retail price: $248)
With estates dating back to 1873, Spring Mountain Vineyard has been instrumental in transforming Napa Valley into the powerhouse wine region that it is today. Known for its volcanic soils, cooler climate, and coniferous forests, Spring Mountain wines are all about elegance, finesse, and longevity. These wines would be right at home amongst the top growths of Bordeaux; able to age for decades. If there ever was a time to get to know Spring Mountain Vineyard, it is now, while reveling in its history. Recently purchased by a hedge fund out of New York, who knows how long this devoted steward of Spring Mountain terroir will remain dedicated to its founding principles. So then, for the New Year, let us take a step back and reflect on halcyon days while celebrating a wine and a style that may never be seen again.
